World Communion Sunday

This coming Sunday is called World Communion Sunday. We are especially mindful on this Sunday that followers of Jesus are part of a world movement. There are no walls or borders or boundaries for followers of Jesus. His followers gather in cathedrals, churches, auditoriums, dirt huts, homes, and in parks to tell the stories, sing the songs, pray, and pass the bread and cup.

We pray, “Renew our communion with your Church throughout the world, and strengthen it in every nation and among every people to witness faithfully in your name. By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world..”

Our World Communion special offering is for scholarships for young leaders all over the world as we continue to work to build a diverse global church.

As you worship on Sunday, look around the room and notice the diversity of First UMC, Salinas. You are from Africa, Mexico, India, Tonga, the Philippines, and all over Europe and America. As the old hymn goes, “In Christ there is no east or west, in him no south or north, but one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide earth.”

See you in worship,

steve
