The Call for a World-wide Fellowship

“The call for a world-wide fellowship that lifts neighborly concern beyond one’s tribe, race, class, and nation is in reality a call for an all-embracing and unconditional love for all people. This often misunderstood and misinterpreted concept has now become an absolute necessity for the survival of humankind. When I speak of love, I am speaking of that force which all the great religions have seen as the supreme unifying principle of life. Love is the key that unlocks the door which leads to ultimate reality.”

This quote comes from the last book written by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1967, not long before his assassination. The book is called, “Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos Or Community?” I treasure this book and every time I pick it up and read from it, I am amazed at how relevant it still is. Monday, January 15, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I thank God for his life and witness.

I encourage you to google Dr. King and read or listen to his “I Have a Dream” speech or his “Letter From a Birmingham Jail,” or some other writing or essay. I am deeply thankful for the life and leadership of Dr. King.

On Sunday we will reflect on how God calls us. God calls great ones like Dr King and God calls ordinary folk like you and me. Read 1 Samuel 3: 1 – 10 and John 1: 43 – 51. How is God calling you?

Blessings,

Pastor Steve
