My Birthday

My birthday was coming and Karla asked me what I wanted to do on my special day. I said, “I want to hang out with my kids for a few hours.” So we began the almost impossible task of trying to get everybody together at the same time. We were almost successful. My youngest son, Jake, lives and works at the Hyatt in Lake Tahoe and was unable to be with us.
 
Nick, Chris, and Aubrey, along with partners were able to hang out for a few hours with their old man. We met up in Oakland, where my son, Chris was attending a seminar for PE teachers. We strolled around Jack London Square and visited. We ate at a wonderful Vietnamese place downtown, and then ate Gelato at a little expresso-ice cream cafĂ©. So simple and so much fun to hang out with adult children.

“Our Call to End Gun Violence.”

I am feeling sad and angry at yet another incident of terrible gun violence in our country. This takes me to United Methodist policy on guns. General Conference Resolutions state the policy of the United Methodist Church on many current social issues and concerns. 
 
Resolution 3428 is “Our Call to End Gun Violence.” While too long for this space, I share with you the last part of this resolution which encourages United Methodist congregations to advocate at the local and national level for laws that prevent or reduce gun violence.
