December Giving

Wow! I told you the need and you responded. We had a very good December financially. Members, friends, and other churches all responded with generosity. Our giving in December was two to three times our average monthly income. Thank you so much!

One thing is clear. Every single gift is important. A homeless man gave me a $50 a few days before Christmas. My first inclination was to tell him to keep it and use it on his own needs. But then I saw the joy that giving was doing to him and the gratitude he felt toward our church and the Neighborhood Service Center. We all need to experience gratitude and the joy of giving. No matter how much or how little we have. This is always important and not just in December.

In Gratitude and Joy,

What time is it in your life?

— from Pastor Steve
There’s a season for everything and a time for every matter under the heavens.
This statement comes from the Book of Ecclesiastes in the Hebrew scriptures. A time for giving birth and a time for dying, a time for planting and a time for uprooting what was planted, etc…It is a beautiful piece of writing. Look it up and read this passage in chapter 3, the first 13 verses.

What time is it in your life? This is a good question to ask as we prepare to enter a new year. What season is this in your life? What are these days calling you to? Are there things to let go of? Are there new behaviors or practices to add to your life? Sometimes certain historical forces call us to something new. Sometimes it is  certain circumstances in our lives. Sometimes the times speak to a group of people like a church and sometimes individuals get a specific call.

What time is it in your life? What time is it in the life of First UMC Salinas? God has made everything fitting in its time, but has also placed eternity in their hearts, without enabling them to discover what God has done from beginning to end.

May we each discover what God call us to in these times,

Shalom,

Steve
