Inter-Faith Thanksgiving Service

I’m excited about the Inter-Faith Thanksgiving Service to be held at Temple Beth El on Sunday, Nov 24 at 3 PM. I understand from folks who have been around Salinas for a while that there used to be an Inter-faith clergy group that worked on such things together but it has not existed for a number of years until recently.

Now we have a group of clergy that meets once a month and is working cooperatively on the Thanksgiving service and the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration in January. So far, our group includes the Northminster Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, Lincoln Avenue Presbyterian Church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Temple Beth El, East Salinas United Methodist Church, Salinas Friends Meeting, and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. We are hoping to include Catholic Churches, and other faith expressions.

I hope you will join us for the Thanksgiving Service. Please share this with a friend or family member. In these days of fragmentation it is important that groups come together in cooperation and love.

In January, our Tuesday night book group will be reading and discussing a book called, “Finding Peace through Spiritual Practice: The Interfaith Amigos’ Guide to Personal, Social, and Environmental Healing.” This book is authored by Pastor Don Mackenzie, Rabbi Ted Falcon, and Imam Jamel Rahman. This will be a wonderful opportunity for us to discuss and experience spiritual practices from an inter-faith perspective.

More information will be coming soon. Blessings,

Pastor Steve

November 17 — Church Conference

This is our yearly church meeting in which we review the year, elect officers, set the pastor’s compensation, and hear reports. We will meet after worship on the 17th for lunch. The meeting will begin around 12:15 PM and will be chaired by the Rev. Audrey Ward, pastor of First UMC Pacific Grove. All Church members are voting members of the Church Conference.
