What time is it in your life?

— from Pastor Steve
There’s a season for everything and a time for every matter under the heavens.
This statement comes from the Book of Ecclesiastes in the Hebrew scriptures. A time for giving birth and a time for dying, a time for planting and a time for uprooting what was planted, etc…It is a beautiful piece of writing. Look it up and read this passage in chapter 3, the first 13 verses.

What time is it in your life? This is a good question to ask as we prepare to enter a new year. What season is this in your life? What are these days calling you to? Are there things to let go of? Are there new behaviors or practices to add to your life? Sometimes certain historical forces call us to something new. Sometimes it is  certain circumstances in our lives. Sometimes the times speak to a group of people like a church and sometimes individuals get a specific call.

What time is it in your life? What time is it in the life of First UMC Salinas? God has made everything fitting in its time, but has also placed eternity in their hearts, without enabling them to discover what God has done from beginning to end.

May we each discover what God call us to in these times,

Shalom,

Steve

Edie Tarr

–from Steve
This past Sunday evening, one of our dear members, Edie Tarr died. Edie was a beautiful and gentle soul who taught those close to her a great deal about love and caring for each other. I am especially touched by the way many of you cared for and included Edie in your lives. This is a wonderful example of living out the faith in community. Thank you for setting this beautiful example.

Theologian and mystic Howard Thurman, wrote these words one Christmas.
When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and the princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost, to heal the broken, to feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner, to rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among brothers and sisters,
To make music in the heart.

It is a joy to be about the work of Christmas with all of you. Blessings,

Steve
